Auntie Ashley

Happy Birthday to my Aunt Ashley!! I hope you get lots of cake and presents on your special day. Thank you for coming to visit me and letting my mommy take a nap! I love you and I hope I see you soon! Here I am dreaming of you holding me. I can't wait for you to take me to Sonic for Happy Hour someday in your cool car!

Mommy Post

So this post is long overdue as well, but I am just now getting to the point where it is a bit easier to move around. As of tomorrow, we will have been home for a week. It has been so great to have our family home and together without the stress of being in the hospital. I can definitely say that our week in the hospital was one of the hardest weeks I have experienced. Our families have been so amazing, especially these last 2 months, we cannot thank them enough for all of their sacrifice and generosity. We couldn't have done it without you. Violet is so lucky to have such caring people in her family, especially her daddy. Ev has been the most amazing husband, and it is the coolest thing watching him be a daddy. He is so good with Violet. In the hospital, he got up around the clock and went to the NICU to feed V, and I really think he is the reason she started doing so great and was able to go home. I love you Evan and am beyond blessed to have you! I definitely feel blessed to work at Cook Childrens, I am confident the care we provide our families is so much better than what we received in the NICU at Baylor. We had some great nurses, but overall we dealt with some very "challenging" people. I see the big need for a Child Life Specialist in the NICU at Baylor... The positive about our experience (besides the obvious of our precious girl) is seeing and feeling God's hand in our lives. Everything pretty much went the exact opposite of what we planned and hoped, but through it all, God showed us constantly that he was in control, and that his plan and timing were always perfect. If any of you are facing a hard time, I encourage you to pray to your Father, know that his timing may not be your timing, but that he will provide all your needs. Thank you to everyone who kept us in your prayers. God was definitely listening!
We have had a busy week. Violet had her first appointment at the pediatrician. She weighed 6 lbs 7 oz, which is great, she is almost back to her birthweight. We go back next week for a check up, just b/c she was born at 37 weeks, and we also will have to schedule her second newborn screen. I fear that the newborn screen involves more poking, and she went through too much of that in the hospital.
On top of our crazy week adjusting to being home, some of our power decided to go out. But we were lucky enough to pack up and head to Weatherford to stay at Hotel Grammy. Violet had so much fun there and definitely didn't want to leave. Thank you Grammy for staying up and feeding V so mommy and daddy could get some much needed rest. And now for the real reason you came to our blog...

Grandpa Newbold came to visit me. It was my first time to meet him, and I hope he comes back soon!

Thank you mom for the yummy birthday cake for Violet which we had to celebrate her 1 week birthday!

Overdue Update

Well, Miss V is doing better, but let me update you on what has been going on. The birthing was very hard on Violet and she got some bruising on her head. When she was born her blood sugar was low so they took her to the NICU and gave her an IV with sugar to raise it, over the last 2 days they have been reducing the amount and now she doesn't need it anymore. They had to give her a feeding tube to make sure her blood sugar stayed up because she wasn't taking her 25mL of Formula. I am proud to say she has been taking 30 mL without the tube for mom and I, and last night she did 30, 20 and 3o. If she contines to eat well on her own the tube goes away, we ask for your prayers for Violet that she would continue to eat well and improve. The doctor says when she takes 45-60mL of formula she should be able to go home.

Mom is doing well too, she is having some pain, normal considering what they did to her. She is so amazing and such a great mom, I love her so much... I am so lucky to have her.

I have a little video of Violet and mommy. Enjoy!

reason for delay

So, sorry for the long delay b/t posts. I spent 4 days last week in the hospital. My blood pressure has been all over the place, and my midwife team wanted to watch me more closely instead of just sending me to labor and delivery triage every few days. They started me on a bp medicine that really seems to be helping, I have had 2 appointments this week, and my blood pressure has been good so far. I have another sono tomorrow, and they said next week they will be able to give us a closer estimate of her measurements, weight, etc. We also picked a date for her to start her journey to see us. The plan is for me to go to the hospital August 31st to be admitted, and they will induce me September 1st. So, until then (or unless she has other plans), I am hanging out in bed. Ev had his work convention last week. Thank you SO much mom for being my babysitter last week and taking such good care of me, I couldn't have done it with out you. Thanks Auntie Ashie for helping get Miss V's room ready. I will hopefully post a nursery pic this weekend, as that is Ev's goal date for having the nursery done. We are gearing up for baby around here and are getting so excited to meet her. Thanks for checking in and more to come!
