1 month and visitors

Violet is one month old today!! I can't believe how fast time has flown by, luckily the time in the hospital is starting to feel like a very distant memory...What is Violet up to at 1 month?
-She still sleeps most of the time, but the afternoons/early evenings are turning in to the harder time to get her to go down
-She likes taking a bath, but hates being naked
-She is a good eater, eating up to 140 cc every 3-4 hours
-She loves being outside
-She loves being held, especially chest-to-chest
-She likes being in the sling, it usually makes her sleep
-She is the cutest baby mommy and daddy have ever seen!

We had a busy weekend with lots of visitors. Thanks everyone for stopping by, now if we could only get volunteers for the middle of the night? (Did I mention we have very nice accomodations, haha.) Violet has her one month checkup Monday, so I will post about that soon. Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend. Pics to come soon...

First Family Outing

We had a fun weekend! My awesome parents came over and my dad helped Evan put in a new sink and faucet. My mom kept Violet occupied, she slept and was so comfy, of course. She loves her grandparents, that is for sure! Thanks mom and dad for giving up your Saturday to work so hard for us. Then, Saturday night we went to hotel Grammy/Grandpa for the night. Vi had a little bit of a rough evening, but then slept great. Thanks for all the yummy food and for staying up late with our little one so we could sleep!
Yesterday we had our first official family outing. We went shopping at Whole Foods. Violet did great thanks to the sling my mom got for me. One lady tried to touch V, but I just pulled the sling over her face so she couldn't get any scary germs. I know I am a bit overprotective, but I do not want to take any chances. V slept the whole time, but once we got home she decided to have a party for the next few hours. It was hard for me, but we put her to sleep in her own room last night. It was rough getting her to sleep, but she finally wore herself out and slept pretty good. It is hard to believe that two days ago was her official due date. I am so happy she is here and keeping us busy! Hope everyone has a great week. Auntie Ashley is on her way over here, so I am off to get Vi ready! XOXO...

Music Monday and Nursery

When I was pregnant with Vi, our sweet friend Melissa gave us an amazing CD with songs mostly about baby girls...She said she had a feeling our baby was going to be a girl, must be her mommy intuition. Well, I think she gave us the CD when I was about 3 months preggo. I can't tell you how many thousands of times I listened to the CD. Turns out my girl still loves to hear it. One song, in particular I listened to about everyday at least once is the "Capri" by Colbie Caillat. When I sing Vi the song now, she instantly calms and becomes very quiet. Maybe it is just my crazy mommy hormones, but I really think she remembers hearing the song and it comforts her.On that note about hormones, Ev just came to the computer and here I am crying uploading this video...haha.

V's nursery is done!! My amazing husband and mom get the credit, I was on bedrest and couldn't help, believe me it was torture, I really think it turned out so beautiful. Thank you SO much mom for painting and for the beautiful curtains. Thank you Ev for putting up my dream chandelier, painting dragonflies, putting all the furniture together, building the boxes for curtains, making about 1,000 trips to Lowes, did I mention my husband is amazing? Our baby is amazing too! We had a follow up appt at the pediatrician today and Vi weighs 6 lbs 13 oz now! She has been eating a ton lately and now I know where she is putting it all. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Auntie Ashley

Happy Birthday to my Aunt Ashley!! I hope you get lots of cake and presents on your special day. Thank you for coming to visit me and letting my mommy take a nap! I love you and I hope I see you soon! Here I am dreaming of you holding me. I can't wait for you to take me to Sonic for Happy Hour someday in your cool car!

Mommy Post

So this post is long overdue as well, but I am just now getting to the point where it is a bit easier to move around. As of tomorrow, we will have been home for a week. It has been so great to have our family home and together without the stress of being in the hospital. I can definitely say that our week in the hospital was one of the hardest weeks I have experienced. Our families have been so amazing, especially these last 2 months, we cannot thank them enough for all of their sacrifice and generosity. We couldn't have done it without you. Violet is so lucky to have such caring people in her family, especially her daddy. Ev has been the most amazing husband, and it is the coolest thing watching him be a daddy. He is so good with Violet. In the hospital, he got up around the clock and went to the NICU to feed V, and I really think he is the reason she started doing so great and was able to go home. I love you Evan and am beyond blessed to have you! I definitely feel blessed to work at Cook Childrens, I am confident the care we provide our families is so much better than what we received in the NICU at Baylor. We had some great nurses, but overall we dealt with some very "challenging" people. I see the big need for a Child Life Specialist in the NICU at Baylor... The positive about our experience (besides the obvious of our precious girl) is seeing and feeling God's hand in our lives. Everything pretty much went the exact opposite of what we planned and hoped, but through it all, God showed us constantly that he was in control, and that his plan and timing were always perfect. If any of you are facing a hard time, I encourage you to pray to your Father, know that his timing may not be your timing, but that he will provide all your needs. Thank you to everyone who kept us in your prayers. God was definitely listening!
We have had a busy week. Violet had her first appointment at the pediatrician. She weighed 6 lbs 7 oz, which is great, she is almost back to her birthweight. We go back next week for a check up, just b/c she was born at 37 weeks, and we also will have to schedule her second newborn screen. I fear that the newborn screen involves more poking, and she went through too much of that in the hospital.
On top of our crazy week adjusting to being home, some of our power decided to go out. But we were lucky enough to pack up and head to Weatherford to stay at Hotel Grammy. Violet had so much fun there and definitely didn't want to leave. Thank you Grammy for staying up and feeding V so mommy and daddy could get some much needed rest. And now for the real reason you came to our blog...

Grandpa Newbold came to visit me. It was my first time to meet him, and I hope he comes back soon!

Thank you mom for the yummy birthday cake for Violet which we had to celebrate her 1 week birthday!

Overdue Update

Well, Miss V is doing better, but let me update you on what has been going on. The birthing was very hard on Violet and she got some bruising on her head. When she was born her blood sugar was low so they took her to the NICU and gave her an IV with sugar to raise it, over the last 2 days they have been reducing the amount and now she doesn't need it anymore. They had to give her a feeding tube to make sure her blood sugar stayed up because she wasn't taking her 25mL of Formula. I am proud to say she has been taking 30 mL without the tube for mom and I, and last night she did 30, 20 and 3o. If she contines to eat well on her own the tube goes away, we ask for your prayers for Violet that she would continue to eat well and improve. The doctor says when she takes 45-60mL of formula she should be able to go home.

Mom is doing well too, she is having some pain, normal considering what they did to her. She is so amazing and such a great mom, I love her so much... I am so lucky to have her.

I have a little video of Violet and mommy. Enjoy!
